My journey in EMS started about 12 years ago but lets go back a bit further. I started my career working as a car mechanic and was involved in a horrific accident that left me with 2 broken legs. After learning how to walk again I changed my line of work and started working as an mechanical engineer and have been doing it ever since. I never forgot my accident and all of the people that helped me along the way so I decided I would take the EMT course and volunteer somewhere to give back. Then I saw my first structure fire. Seeing them all work together for a common goal was fascinating and I was looking for that camaraderie that goes along with being part of a firehouse so I became a firefighter.
I have seen my fair share of bad calls and have seen some of my best friends go thru tough times of dealing with the aftermath and not knowing where to turn for help. When I heard about the opportunity to join the peer support team I was all in. I hope to be of help to those in need. In my own personal experience having someone to talk to is invaluable.
